Winter Wrap-Up

Even though the deep snow drifts are all gone and the weather is warmer than the subzeros we suffered through earlier in the winter, I am still not thrilled with the chilly temperatures that have composed our start of spring. I am very, very ready for more sunshine and more warmth! So is Allison, who frequently asks (begs? demands?) to be taken “outside!” We do go for short walks when we get too tired of being cooped up, but, man, we are ready for spring to hit with full force! And then—aahhh—glorious summer! Can’t wait.

Meanwhile, we have had a good and busy start to this year and I haven’t blogged about most of it. We’ve been busy with several house projects (building some much-needed shelves, painting our bedroom, shopping for a few pieces of furniture) and we’ve had several visitors.

A highlight for us was a visit from my parents (currently known around here as Nana and Bapa, two of Allie’s most favorite people). Allie had SO much fun and we had a little more time to devote to those aforementioned house projects while she was busy playing with Nana and Bapa. My dad retired in December, so we’re excited to have more visits from them.

Another highlight was a weekend reunion of my girlfriends from Taylor University, prompted by our desire to celebrate the recent engagement of my close friend (and college roomie) Stephanie who will be marrying her sweetheart this summer. We had friends come in from Michigan, Indiana, and Virginia, and we were excited to host several of them at our house.

IMG_6702The Mansell family stayed with us, and Allie was pretty excited (although initially shy) about having their girls (Lulu, 3.5 and Dana Jean, 22 months) and newborn baby boy Lowrie stay with us. We had a great time!

Some of you may remember when my friend Tiffanie visited last March and surprised our girlfriends by showing up at dinner with me. We decided the surprise was so much fun that we should do it again, so she secretly booked a ticket, stayed with us, and surprised them all over again. SO much fun!

I’m blessed to have had such good girlfriends over the years, especially because our friendships continue to grow as we enter new phases of life.

  1. Yahoo for girlfriends! What fun to see everyone! And doesn't Allie look so happy...like all these friends came just to visit her? :-)
