Mother’s Day Part 2

One reason why Mother’s Day was so special for me this year is that we dedicated Allison at church that day. Baby dedication is a way to publically declare that we believe Allie's dedicationAllison is a gift from God and that we intend to do everything we can to raise her to know the truth of who Jesus is, praying that someday she will make a decision on her own to follow Him. We’re also asking our family, friends, and church body to support us in our endeavor and to join us in pointing Allie towards the truth.

We were asked to choose a Bible verse or passage that reflects our desire for our daughter. That sent me into a tailspin for awhile, trying to figure out HOW to jam all of those desires into one succinct bundle. I was making lists of verses, long sections from Psalm 119, parts of the gospels, etc. But I kept coming back to one simple, familiar, classic passage, and I finally realized that it really does sum up our central hope for Allison:

familyTrust in the LORD with all your heart
       and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
       and he will make your paths straight.
                                         -Proverbs 3:5-6

We were blessed to celebrate this special occasion with my parents who spent several days staying with us (and loving on Allie!) and my good friend, Stephanie. Also, three other babies and their parents from our small group (we had a recent population explosion!) participated in the dedication, and it was neat to share the day with them since we’ve shared the last few months of parenthood together. It was really a beautiful day in many ways.Nan, Steph, Allie, & SarahGrandpa, Nana, & Grandpa's Little Girl

  1. Love the verse! May Allie trust in the Lord with all her sweet heart, and may God make her paths straight her whole life. So glad I got to be there. :-)
