Happy New Year!
Our Christmas plans to drive to my parents’ house outside of Nashville fell through, so after a quiet Christmas with just the three of us here at home, we flew to Nashville on New Year’s Eve. The plane ride out (Allison’s first) was very stressful. She screamed and screamed for the first 20 or so minutes, dozed for 20, then screamed the remaining 20. Most passengers around us were very friendly and gracious about it, but we definitely heard several exclamations on the power of her lungs. We had a great time. My Grandma Ruth was there for a few days, so Allie got to meet one of her two great-grandmothers. (She’ll meet great-grandma Verna in Spokane, WA, in February). Allie definitely thought Great-Grandma Ruth is a lot of fun!
It was wonderful to spend some relaxing time with my family. When Nana is around, Allison gets some extra attention and I get some extra naps! Seth was only able to stay for the long weekend, but I had a few extra days in town. Life is a lot more complicated with our cutie on the scene, but I was still able to get together with a few old friends in town. It was a wonderful, relaxing visit. And, despite my nerves ahead of time, my flight back alone with Allison went much, much better than I expected! She only cried for 10 minutes in the middle (and it was “crying” not “screaming bloody murder” as she had on the first flight). This gives me some hope for the 4.5 hour flight out to Seattle in February!
One of our unofficial New Year’s Resolutions is to make more progress at turning our house into a home. This will involve a lot of unpacking, organization, creativity, and (most of all) patience.
Our prayer is that 2010 will be a year of God’s grace in our home, leading to his glory as we try to shine his light to the world.
What a precious picture of Allie with her great-grandma! It looks like they're both rather taken with each other.
