Six Years for Us, One Month for Her, a House for All
On Monday, Seth and I celebrated our sixth anniversary and Allison celebrated four weeks of being outside the womb. We celebrated as a family by going to dinner at a teppanyaki-style Japanese steak house where Seth and I enjoyed some skillfully- prepared, tasty food and Allie enjoyed a snooze. She was fussy and cried a lot once we got home, but then gave us quite an anniversary present: she let us sleep for six glorious hours in a row! Perfect present, kiddo!
For the last few days, Allison has been more fussy. We’ve been trying to figure out if it’s gas, burps, sleepiness, or my big fear, the dreaded colic. But tonight has been good, so maybe it was just a fussy few days. In any case, she turns 1 month tomorrow and is a healthy, happy little girl. We went to the pediatrician’s office today and our big girl weighed in at 9 lbs 6 oz and measured 22 inches (which puts her in the 84th percentile … is she going to be taller than both of us? Both of her grandpas are over six feet).
I continue to feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer. Although nursing continues to be a struggle (especially when Allie unlatches and screams and refuses to relatch several times during a feeding), we are making progress and starting to figure out a routine. Little by little I’m getting out of the house more, sleeping more (I’m so thankful that she seems to have inherited my gift for sleeping!), and starting to feel a bit more human. Seth is still able to work from home which is a huge blessing.
And speaking of huge blessings: apparently we are closing on our house on Friday morning! After six months of hoping and trying, it appears that we are finally going to be handed the keys! There has been a lot of drama and uncertainty in the last few weeks (I’ll spare you the details but give you some key words: lawyers, gas company, addendums, burst water pipe, unresponsive seller, insurance underwriters, ultimatums). At each step, we’ve had to stop and pray again for God’s wisdom and direction and he always, always comes through. The lesson we continue to learn is that we can trust in God as our provider rather than giving in to fear when things are uncertain. If he’s opening a door, nothing can stop him.
Wowzers, congratulations you guys! On 6 years, 1 month birthday, and the house!!! Whoohoo, that's so exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad things are looking up! In my experience, babies sometimes just have fussy days..even fussy times of the day (regularly). And if it helps, I still have fussy days :) Sounds like you have things figured out and I'm glad you are doing well!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 6 years!!! Whoo-hoo!
ReplyDeleteMy friend had similar issues with nursing her 2nd- the dis-latching and screaming, and being super fussy all the time. She tried the elimination diet, to see if it was something he was allergic to. Made the WORLD of difference. (He has a LOT of allergies, including milk, soy, wheat, corn....) He is actually a happy baby now. You might look into that. (??) It could just be normal baby fussiness (gas). Hope you figure it out! Or that she outgrows it soon!
what a great week of celebrations! and what a long, beautiful, cutie baby! i think she'll be taller than you guys before you know it! :):)
ReplyDeleteQuite a month! An anniversary, a baby, and a house! Congrats.
